What is Love?
On Wednesday's seminar the class talked about love and its meaning. Love is a abstract concept that cannot be defined in a few words. When I think of love, I think of someone looking beyond a person's imperfections and accepting that person for who they are. A individual is not going to analyze that person's every imperfection. Physical appearance is not the main factor when it comes to love. A person can also love other things as well. For example, you can love ice cream or puppies. Love can be a great thing. It can sometimes spark positive feelings that are indescribable. However, love can be a serious thing as well. Overall, love is not
something that should be taken lightly.

I agree with your opinion in that love is a strong feeling but I believe that love is a feeling more reserved for people than for objects like ice cream. I think love is an overused word that is being used to describe things that are not loved so much as they are really enjoyed. I think love should be used to describe something that one absolutely adores and the thought of losing it would destroy oneself.
ReplyDeleteLove being an abstract concept is an awesome way of putting it. Love means a lot of things. It depends on each individual to decide what it means for themselves. For some, its a passionate commitment. For others, it is a chemistry, a biological trait that we all posses and crave for. Me, myself, I believe it means a variety of things. It could be non sexual infatuation for something or could be a developed love that has matured over time.
ReplyDeleteLove is definitely an abstract concept. I believe some people are merely infatuated with the idea of love, instead of realizing that it is a feeling that cannot be forced. If the definition was looked up, it would reveal to be an extremely generic definition ("an intense feeling of deep affection". To different people, love can mean very different things. Not every one person will fall in love or experience it the same way, so the only way this definition would hold true is if it was generic enough to apply to even the most menial of affections for inanimate objects.
ReplyDeleteI believe that there are different types of love. For instance, loving your spouse and loving a certain type of food are two different types of love. The type of love you have for a significant other is affection. When a person says that they love a certain type of food, it seems to be an obsession.
ReplyDeleteVery well put. Love being an abstract concept this the best explanation I've heard in a while. Love is simple too broad To be limited. For instance, I love my son, shoes, and food. None of these are similar, yet they all receive different levels of my love.
ReplyDeleteLove Is Definitely An Abstract Concept, But The Love That We Have For Other People Is Much Different Than The Kind Of Love We Have For Things Such As Ice Cream. The Connection We Have With Living Things Should Be Different Than The Connection We Have With Objects.
