Religion could be...

For most of my life I've gone to church, but when I got to high school I did not as much. I got involved and I did not have enough time for anything. I went to school, and I basically stayed there till late hours doing productions. When I had trouble with school, or just felt like I was stressed I would always turn to praying. I think religion is a good thing because it helps people get on with life. It just gives them something to believe in, and there is something good in the world. It made me feel better and to know that there was someone to talk to about your problems, and ask for help. There is an inner peace you get when you know you are okay, and that there is a person who can possibly help you get out of a difficult situation. There is also a great way to bring people together that share a common view. When people see a common good, and what to help other people get to where they are. It also has a different effect when it is used for bad. Many people use religion to put ear into people. Many dictators could also use to seem like their way is their only way to rule and govern a nation. There are many ways to see how religion can shape a person, but I think seeing it as hope for people is the reason religion was made and practiced in many counties and states.

  1. I do love the points you make about religion. It can be beneficial in both positive and negative ways. The fault is that since the religious texts most of us read are very old. One has to "interpret" them and apply those interpretations to everyday life. In interpreting how these ancient laws apply to life in the present, both selfish and incorrect interpretations can arise. This is where most religious dictators and unworthy dignitaries find their fuel to feed to their followers. The only way to be completely sure you are not being mislead is to read the religious text yourself in a rational mindset.

  2. You make a great point. Religion gives people hope when they need it the most. It's not meant for violence, or to justify any acts of violence, despite what some people have tried to use it for. Once a person knows the religion through reading their holy text themselves, they should have a clear enough understanding as to ignore anybody else trying to convince them otherwise or coerce them into doing something unfavorable.

  3. Yes , religion can bring people together and can provide comfort to many but is comfort the main reason for religion. Is religion just something that someone invented along time ago as coping mechanism to deal with issues regarding current and afterlife. I believe it was Karl Marx who said religion is the Opium of the People. Yes, it provides us with a way to deal with life's struggles but is one supposed blindly follow a religion just because it allows us to get through the day.I think not. That is why I believe that everybody should have a thorough understanding of their religion before they commit their lives to what could possibly be in their eyes a mere way of dealing. When one understands their religion one can truly enjoy the benefits of having it.

  4. Very interesting, as in most people religion is something of a noble lie people often tell themselves to cheer themselves up. To devote your life to something that is simply a lie to oneself is certainly not how most people would want to live their lives. Especially with all the pitfalls it can leave in your way such as being susceptible to misinterpretations and manipulations.
